Welcome to Toronto – city of migrants, culture, culinary and the freezing cold weather. What can be better than a visit to a gay bathhouse to enjoy the steams? Spa Excess is another great gay sauna in Toronto which caters the gay community and is located downtown, not too far from the gay village.
I have to start by saying I really almost hate gay saunas and bathhouses where there are multiple floors and steep stairs. Spa Excess indeed has many many stairs. 3.5 floors to be exact and not including the lovely deck, if you dare sitting there towel only in the limbs numbing climate.
A special characteristic of this clean and safe bathhouse is the fact that it has 0 style. I was always riddled about how on earth could anyone think carpets go well with wet play halls. The carpet in this sauna’s bar must have been installed in the 90s and it seems that keeping and maintaining the old is a common practice in this city.
Having all that said. This place has a super clean white colored jacuzzi which is always a plus. Water temperature was wonderful too. Yet not as boiling as in the neighbouring Steameworks Baths. The jets are so freaking strong that you can easily massage your entire body parts with them. Great job to the staff on the maintenance here.
I visited on a Monday which although reviews on Google mentions it being busy on Monday’s mid day and evening, I found it, unfortunately, pretty empty.
Is this place catering to all ages? Not sure. From what’s I got to experience, it may be attracting more grandaddies than daddies.
A unique differentiator between the American bathhouses and European gay saunas is the fact that in Europe there are no “rooms” as in spa excess. Canadians, scrap the rooms! We only need lockers. Have a look at the NZ in Amsterdam or Berlin’s Boiler and make space for large cruising areas and lounges rather then these small empty corridors and rooms. It’s time for a change!
Thats said, there is a full bar and a pool table, lounge carpeted area with a tv and run down couches.

I’ve been going to Spa Excess for a number of years and yesterday, September 29, I was told that all the rooms on the third floor were booked due to Chubs at the Tubs event. I’ve never had a problem getting a room on the third floor whether there is an event going on or not, day or evening. I was told that having all the rooms booked on the third floor brings Spa Excess more money. Really? Is Spa Excess hurting that badly? When I questioned the guy how unfair this was he told me that this has always been their policy and he was rude, rude to me. I’ve never had a problem in the past, event or not in getting a room on the third floor, which is my preference. I come early when I go to Spa Excess, around 9:30 a.m. and Chubs at The Tubs doesn’t start until 1:00 p.m. Having all the rooms on the third floor booked is not fair. I always get a room on the third floor but guys, if there’s an event that day or evening, you’ll be out of luck. These groups are no more special than anyone else. These rooms should be for everyone, event or not. By the way, I wasn’t the only one upset that you booked the third floor rooms for this event. First come, first served. You upset more than one person with this ridiculous policy. Give us the option on what floor we want!!!! Thank you

Spa Excess..This the worst sauna in the face of the earth, where you get recorded in your private room without your consent “hidden camera installed.” The whole experience was very satanic.
The staff were very rude gossiping about clients behind their back & treated people with such disrespect especially the ugly fat queen with tattoos who were among the rudest in the establishment. If you’re a bottom feeder then, you’ll fit right in! No class in hiring decent people! Human Garbage Behind The Counter!
If you want to be famous in the porn industry then, this a good place to start because, they will break the law and record you illegally without you knowing about it. The Irish guy that I met that night showed me the camera personally & asked me to go to the dark room for some privacy.

I admit I used to go to Spa Excess Toronto and loved everything about the environment there, but after two or three issues I had a few months ago, I’ll never go back (sorry). 1 – the allow trans/cd/ftm there, claiming “as long as they identify as male (even with chest scars/no penis), they can attend” . . . During pride last year, a ftm was hitting on me in the hot tub and dry sauna, and I’m gay (felt very uncomfortable). Also if it’s clearly a man in women’s clothing, and won’t take “No” for an answer, ummm… security? 2 – Ever since #BruceMcArthur happened at this place, it seems to have more like them attending. An arabic man tried choking me in my room back in early April 2023, and I had to report it. Security was so lose and shrugged it off as “rough play/bdsm” which I don’t like.
