Bain Colonial – Montréal, Canada

Don’t judge a book by its cover they say and boy they are right about this one. The Bain Colonial is so Canadian in the sense that it stands with time and it ain’t broken.

Upon entering you walk up a staircase to be greeted by a nice reception guy. Then you walk through a sliding metal entrance spinner and viola, you are in another world! You’re in the 70’s!

Entrance floor has lockers, small scary gym with trainings props from a previous century and a non functioning vending machine. In a small lounge area, sports are broadcasted. Go figure!

It doesn’t click in that this place existed as far back as 1914 and has been serving Montreal men ever since.

Many of the facilities do show the age of time but still functional. The light fixtures and mirrors as well the carpets must still be the original from an 80’s renovation. Maybe even from the seventies.

At the bottom floor all wet facilities are set up. There’s two steam room, Jacuzzi or spa turbolence, and a unique dry sauna with a standing heater with crematorium vibes that looks like it from the 1940’s.

Lay yourself on a marble table and have one of the other clients massage you up! That’s apparently a thing here.

After that get your legs massaged in a prehistoric electric foot massager.

I had a funny priced massage given the fact it was one of the best I have ever had given by Garry who is a master in what he does. He used hot stones, sticks, electric shocker and what not, and delivered the best expirience one can have. All that for a mere $25 CAD. If you’re here on a Sunday, make sure you get yourself treated by Garry.

What is that even?

The top floor has many many rooms and carpets. Who in their right mind would install carpets in a humid place like a spa? Can’t say. But in addition to carpets, theres a small watch room and clean toilets.

The third floor has a balcony where you can sun bath naked under the skies on Montréal!
